Our Philosophy
Jerry Bailey Children's Centre is a community based (not for profit) Centre operating in the Shoalhaven Heads community. The Managament Committee & the staff are continually striving to provide a high quality early childhhood educational service.
We believe that :
- Preschool years are vitally important as children learn the basis for their life skills during these formative years.
- Children will develop healthy bodies, minds, & spirits in an environment where their individuality is supported.
- Play is a child's work, therefore play must have a purpose, be productive & have a conclusion. Through hands on play, children are able to explore, experiment & use self-discovery.
- Children's lives are enhanced through sharing their social & cultural differences.
- All children deserve equal opportunities to explore & play within their environment regardless of age or gender.
- A safe, healthy environment will assist children in developing their self-help skills and independence.
- Routine times are important in providing children with a sense of security & are valuable learning times.
- Home is the most influential environment young children have & therefore continuity should be maintained between home and the Centre.
- Positive conflict resolution helps children gain awareness of their own actions & their consequences, along with an understanding of what is appropriate behaviour. As skills are learnt the process of self-discipline will begin.
- Children have the right to personal safety & protection in their environment.
- Children have the right to be listened to on an individual & group level. This helps them to understand that their thoughts & ideas are important.
- Children need to develop positive relationships for their personal health, well being & development.
- The outdoor environment is important in developing children's sensory awareness & love of nature.
